Poem 1

A living ball of fur
Hanging from a tree branch
Upside down
Huddled around family
Beautiful fur
The color of sands and sunsets
Resting the eyes as the sun rises
Dark leathery wings
Wrapped around a body
Comforting the flying fox
The elusive bat

A child watches on the other side of the glass
A child looks upon a warm family
A child looks upon a thing of beauty
A child's heart is limping
Full of regret
Full of uncertainty
Full of pain
A child wonders
A child wonders if they could have trusted their heart
Their loves
Their mind
A child wonders if they could be at peace
Like the bats
A child wonders if they could feel that warmth again
The warmth of their own skin
The warmth that could have been theirs
The warmth that was theirs
The warmth they seek to know again

Looking upon the orange and yellow sky
Looking upon tiny reflections of heaven on a billion blades of grass
Looking upon what they once loved
What they once cherished
What they once lived for
What they want to live for again
A living body
Full of passion
Now a woman
With new purpose
Full of hope
Now a woman
With new life

I love the Bats again
